In the small epistle of Jude, we are warned to watch out for “the creeps.” Actually the verse reads like this, “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ (Jude 4). Notice a few characteristics of these men:
1. They were Subtle. Jude said they crept in unaware. They plotted and planned unknowingly with an agenda. Instead of fighting the church from without, they decided to join the church and destroy it from within.
2. They were Sinful. These were ungodly men according to Jude. Like their father the devil, they were able to transform themselves into the angel of light but they were full of darkness and depravity.
3. They were Sinister. Their goal was to attack and destroy the doctrine of grace. They were false teachers who crafted their words in religious language, but they spoke half-truths, damning men’s souls to hell.
4. They were Satanic. They used their appearance, associations, and attributes to gain access into the congregation, but they were indeed messengers of Satan, tares among the wheat. Watch out for the creeps, they are still trying to get into our churches, homes, hearts, and lives.
