April 13 – Do You Have a Fat Mind?

Someone has rightly observed, “You are what you eat.”  What we put into our bodies has long-lasting, life-altering effects.  Because our culture is inundated with the fast-food mentality, we are the heaviest generation ever in America.  If this is true of our bodies, it is equally true of our minds.

There is potentially a lot of “junk food” out there that can cause your mind to be “overweight” and overloaded with the garbage of ungodliness.  Websites, magazines, television programs, movies, video games, and the like are designed to captivate our senses and steal away our thinking.  We have allowed ourselves to become desensitized to things that are hated by God.  As a result, we unknowingly allow our minds to be filled with unhealthy thoughts and notions.  Before long, our thoughts become our behavior, and our behavior cultivates our character.

We need filters for our thinking.  We need spiritual barriers in place to examine what we allow to enter our minds.  That is why the apostle Paul said to think on things that are: true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of a good report, and virtuous.  Take the next twenty-four hours and write down all the things you allow in your mind.  Those things that are fried up in the grease-pit of the world should be tossed in the trash!
