During the Vietnam War, General George Westmoreland approached some of his paratroopers and asked them about their jumps. One fellow in particular said, “Sir, it is the greatest experience of my life. I love making the jumps!” Another fellow replied, “There is nothing else I would rather do.” The general came to another young man and asked, “Son, do you like making the jumps?” The boy replied, “No sir, not particularly, I just like being around the people who love to jump.”
“Courage is contagious” said Billy Graham, “when a brave man stands, the spines of others are stiffened.” There is something infectious about being around people who are fearless. They stir us to move; they motivate us to attempt the difficult; they stimulate the stagnant.
Winston Churchill said, “Courage is the first of human qualities, because it is the only quality that guarantees all the others.” Courage moves us into unchartered waters; it unleashed a sense of adventure and discovery in our hearts. It gives us the drive and zeal to move beyond our own limitations and trust God for the impossible.
Get around someone with courage and see if it doesn’t rub off. Before you know it, you just might be taking the plunge!
