December 27 – Don’t Get Used to It

There was a man who walked into a fortune teller’s tent at a carnival to enquire of his future.  As he sat down with the mysterious woman, he looked into her crystal ball.  The teller quickly said, “I see many things in your future.”  Intrigued, the man asked what she saw.  She replied, “You will be poor, miserable, and unhappy until you are forty-five.”  Unsettled by her prediction, he asked, “What will happen when I turn forty-five?”  She said, “You will get used to it.”

Sadly, this is an all-too-common prediction for many people.  Instead of changing their circumstances, they simply allow their circumstances to change them.  They embrace the status quo of life, and plod through their journey without ever reaching their potential or dreams.

This is not the way God wants us to live.  Christ came so that we may have life and life more abundantly.  He didn’t burst forth from the grave, defeat death, and impart eternal life so that we could have a sad, sub-par existence.  John Maxwell said, “You can spend your life any way you want, but you can only spend it once.”   This is the only shot you get.  Don’t get used to the mediocrity and misery of hum-drum living.  Shut the mouths of the naysayers, and do something today to change your course.
