September 15 – The Message of the Mediator

God created man in a sinless paradise.  He walked with man in the midst of the garden in the cool of the day; but that relationship was grossly divided when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command.  Between Holy God and unrighteous man was the issue of wicked sin.

In order for God and man to be united there was the need of a mediator.  A mediator is an arbitrator, an administrator of a covenant.  He is one who unites and restores two parties that have been set at variance.  The task of reconciliation is the responsibility of the mediator.  Our great Mediator is none other than Jesus Christ.  As Paul said in 1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Jesus Christ is the saving Mediator.  There is no doubt concerning what He came to do: to seek and to save the lost.  Jesus Christ is our sole Mediator.  There is only one mediator between God and men, just One.  He competes with no other god or priest.  He is the sacrificial Mediator.  Our Mediator had to die.  Hebrews 9:15 says, “And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death…they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” Christ, who is Holy God, became man, died in our stead, and rose from the grave to reconcile our souls to God.
