September 11 – We Serve a Big God

The eleventh day of September will always be a day of national reflection.  Most people will always remember where they were when they either heard the news or watched the terror unfold live on television.  I recall the sense of insecurity that settled in my heart when I realized our nation was under attack.  I had always felt that America was somewhat untouchable, but when that morning came I realized the vulnerability and susceptibility of our nation.

However, in the dark ashes and shadows of that awful day, there glimmered a ray of hope through the fallen debris.  It was the first time in a long time I felt national unity in our country.  People prayed together, cried together, went to church together, and pulled together.  On that day, we were not Republican and Democrat, poor and wealthy, conservative and liberal no; we were citizens of the greatest country in the world, we were all part of the United States of America.

More importantly, people turned to God.  As a nation we sought His face and turned to Him.  Though the inclination was short-lived we were reminded that God can be found even in the evilest moments.  September 11th will always remind me of how small I am and how big God is.
