September 4 – The Cross of Christ

We have all heard people and preachers say that Jesus took our cross, and we understand their intent, but to be accurate we must realize that the cross of Calvary was never ours to bear.  The Bible is clear as to whom the cross of Calvary belonged: It was HIS.Consider the following verses:

John 19:17– “And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha.”

Colossians 1:20– And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Colossians 2:14- “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”

The cross of Calvary was ordered and appointed from the foundation of the world.  Indeed, He died for our sins; but He died for our sins upon His Cross.

The crown that he wore and the cross that he bore

Twas nothing we could bear,

So He walked up the hill His life’s blood to spill

For the Cross, alone, He could not share
