June 25 – Loving God with Your Mind

Christ instructed His followers to love the Lord God with all their heart, soul, and mind.  Literally, every part of our consciousness should be committed to loving God.  But how do we love God with our minds?  How does one love God mentally?

We love God with our minds by thinking about God.  I realize that sounds elementary, but one cannot affectionately engage God without awakening our minds toward Him.  Set aside time each day to think about His goodness.

We love God with our minds by meditating upon His Word.  You cannot fully engage the Author without pondering what He has said.  When we meditate upon His Word we fill our minds with His promises. Furthermore, we are better suited to make biblical decisions.

We love God with our minds by filtering what comes into our senses.  Like a computer, our minds store whatever stimuli we permit to enter our thoughts.  By guarding our ears and eyes we keep out worldly debris.

We love God with our minds by engaging in good works.  When we witness, study, testify, help the poor, and intentionally give, we are forced to think about what we are doing.  To love God wholly is to love God mentally.
