April 25 – One Man’s Trash

10 Ideas for Gospel-Tract Distribution – KennethKuykendall.com

Several years ago I went soul-winning with a group of men from our church.  We knocked on several doors in the community inviting people to church and telling them of the love of God.  There was one home in which no one answered the door so we left a Gospel tract.  We barely made it out of the driveway when a large man ran us down.  He was very upset that we left our literature.  He threw the tract at us and said, “Don’t leave your trash in my door anymore.”

As he walked away I picked up the Gospel tract and thought to myself, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”  To the disgruntled neighbor he valued the literature as garbage, but I valued it as the Gospel.  The life-giving message within the parameters of that tract was the greatest treasure I have ever received.  It was not trash, it was a treasure to me, and it still is.

What the man failed to realize was that we were not soliciting a product; we were offering a gift the gift of eternal life.  One day our neighbor will give an account to his rejection of Jesus Christ.  On that day he will not view the Gospel as a piece of trash; no, he will view it as a treasure he refused.  Every day you have the opportunity to share with others the greatest treasure known to men the free gift of salvation. Do you?
