April 23 – Asleep in the Garden

When Jesus entered into the Garden of Gethsemane He was literally entering into a place of pressure.  Gethsemane was known as the Olive Press a place where olive oil was produced as a result of great weight.  Certainly Jesus fell under the pressure of the impending hour. Jesus experienced Gethsemane by Himself as His disciples fell asleep.  Christ looked into the bitter cup of sin, experienced loneliness, prayed until his sweat became as great drops of blood, felt the shadow of the Roman cross, and was ultimately betrayed by Judas.  Indeed, the pressure for Christ was great.

Even as Christ fell under pressure before He bore the cross, we as believers should have a burden for the lost souls of men as we bear our cross.   Someone has aptly stated, “We are not over-loaded, we are just under-burdened.”

People are dying and going to hell every single moment.  During the time you took to read these few paragraphs, hundreds of people have slipped into eternity many without a Savior.  May God help us to either get a burden for lost souls or keep a burden for lost souls.  Don’t fall asleep in the Garden.
