April 21 – The Value of One Soul

How Do Chickens Make Eggs? - Australian Eggs

In 1921, David and Svea Flood left their home in Sweden to enter the interior of Africa with their two-year old son, and another couple, the Erickson’s. When they arrived to the remote region they discovered hostile natives who would not allow them into their village. With faith and determination, they went half a mile into the hill country and built mud huts. They prayed for a door of opportunity but the only contact they had with the villagers was through a little boy who was allowed to sell the missionaries some eggs once a week. Svea Flood decided if this was the only person she could encounter she would lead him to Christ, and she did.

It wasn’t long after that malaria struck the region and Svea Flood died. David, her husband became angry with God. He had no converts, he was not allowed into the village and his wife was dead. He left Africa and returned to Sweden. Hostile with God, David turned away from the Lord and to the world.

It wasn’t until years later that he discovered a picture in a religious magazine of a grave with a white cross, and on the cross were the words Svea Flood. The article told the story of the 600 baptized believers who now lived in that primitive village. Most of them were led to the Lord by a young man who used to sell chickens to Svea Flood.
