We are a calorie-conscious society. We count calories, cut calories, and consume calories all the time. These days most products give the calorie information on the packaging. More and more restaurants are displaying the calories of meals on their menus. We measure our diets by our intake of calories. If you are health-conscious then you are more than likely aware of the calories you consume on a daily basis. But have you ever seen a calorie?
We never see calories; we only see the results of calories in inches and pounds. Faith operates in the same way. We can’t actually see faith; instead we see changed lives as a result of faith.
We are not saved by good works, but genuine faith produces good works in our life. Martin Luther said, “Faith alone saves, but faith that saves is never alone.”
There are multitudes of people who identify themselves with an evangelical demographic but have never trusted Christ as Savior. They may be part of a church, involve themselves in religious activity or rhetoric; but if they have never trusted Christ they are not genuinely saved. If someone is truly saved, much like a calorie, it will show up somewhere.
