Over the past few years my family has been awakened in the middle of the night on several occasions by a pounding knock on our door. We have some neighborhood kids who apparently get a thrill out of disturbing the peace in our subdivision.
They sporadically go from door to door waking up the neighbors. You never know when they might show up; they knock on the door and quickly run away. They do get on my nerves, but I must admit something – I can identify with them.
The same practice often occurs in my prayer life. I am guilty of sporadically and quickly knocking on the door of prayer. Too often I make my move and hurriedly run off without waiting for Someone to open. I wonder how many times the Lord has a Word for me on the other end, but I miss it because I hastily go to the next stop.
Take some time today not only to knock on the door of prayer, but to patiently wait for the Lord as He opens the door. Greet Him, speak with Him, and stay long enough for Him to speak to you.
