April 2 – The Land of Limbo

The Land of Limbo is a miserable place to be.  The apostle Paul understood the aggravation of such a place.  He, in essence, told the Romans, “Those things I should do, I do not do those things; and those things I should not be doing, those are the things I do.”  He went on to say that the Spirit opposes the flesh, and the flesh opposes the Spirit-a constant state of limbo (Romans 7).

To Paul, the natural world was appealing to the flesh, but the Spirit of God would not give Him liberty to indulge in its sensuality.  On the other hand, the spiritual world escorted him to a right relationship with God, but the flesh constantly hindered him from living in such a state.  He seemed to be a resident in the Land of Limbo.

The Land of Limbo has its boundaries between the selfish and the selfless.  Its town motto is “Neither flesh nor faith.”  If you drink from its water you will discover it to be lukewarm, not hot, nor cold.  Its streets are paved with apathy and indifference.  You may ask, how can we leave such a city?  Well, Paul gave us directions out.  He said, “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 7:25).  The only way out of the Land of Limbo is to trust fully and completely the Lord Jesus Christ. Hook your load to His wagon, for He alone can take you out of the Land of Limbo!
