Curtis Hutson used to tell a story about a man who stood looking at a picture of Christ in a gallery store. The picture depicted Jesus on the cross with the Roman soldier standing by. A young boy came up to the man and started explaining the picture.
He said, “Mister, that’s Jesus on the cross.” The man didn’t say a word; he just kept staring at the picture. The boy went on, “Sir, you see those soldiers, they killed Jesus.” Still, the man was silent. The boy kept explaining, “And those disciples kneeling down, they took the body and buried the Lord.” Not saying a word, the man simply walked away.
After walking a block down the road the man heard the pounding steps of the young lad. Finally catching up with the man, the boy exclaimed, “Mister, I forgot to tell you the most important part, Jesus came out of the grave! And He is alive!”
That is certainly the most important part. Without the resurrection, all hope would be lost. Our faith would be vain. Our preaching would just be idle chatter. Our destiny would be doomed. But Christ is alive! And that one life-changing fact is worth running down the street to tell mankind the good news of Jesus Christ!
