You don’t have to be a mathematical genius to know that one hundred pennies and four quarters both equal one dollar. Even though they are same amount, I would much rather have the four quarters. Quarters are more widely accepted, they are easier to carry, and they have more value per piece.
Think about the same concept when it comes to friendship. Would you rather have one hundred “penny” friends, or four “quarter” friends?
In this day of social media, we seemingly have thousands of “friends” and “followers.” We hear about their menial daily activities, we see their pictures, we know their moods, likes, dislikes, and weird little quirks. But in all reality, we do not really know them at all.
Friendship involves more than accepting a request through an email. Friendship takes work. Friendship requires honesty, connection, trust, and sacrifice. True friendship is not cheap. Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Don’t get me wrong I appreciate every single penny I have ever owned; but if I had my choice, I prefer the quarters. It doesn’t take as many of them to get the job done.
