January 10 – It’s Never Too Late

Fauja Singh holds just about every possible record in his age bracket for marathon running.  At the age of 92 he set the world record as the oldest man to finish the 26.2 mile run in the fastest time –five hours and forty minutes.

At the strapping age of 100 he set five world records in various races at the Ontario Masters Association.  And three days later he ran in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon becoming the only person in the world over 100 years old to compete and finish such a feat.

Because of health complications, Singh did not start walking until he was five years old, but once he started he never stopped. Amazingly, he started running competitively at the age of 89 after witnessing the death of his son on a construction site.  From that moment, he had a new perspective and outlook on life.  Singh has said of the grueling race, “The first 20 miles are not that difficult.  As for the last six miles, I run while talking to God.”

His resolve and determination remind us that it is never too late to start something.  Regardless of your physical limitations, age, finances, or lot in life, with the help of God you can start and finish your race.
