All throughout the Old Testament we find men and women who demonstrated faith in God. From Genesis to Revelation this is the essence of salvation. By grace we are saved through faith. Faith in God is the bedrock of our redemption. But when the Holy Spirit conceived Jesus Christ into the womb of Mary, we have, for the first time in Scripture, a picture of salvation in the life of a believer.
Faith in the Old Testament had been defined as “faith in God” but when we see Mary with child we discover “God in faith.”
Christ was living inside Mary. Christ, the Savior of humanity, the promised Messiah was residing in the body of a young Jewish girl. This is the true picture of salvation. Paul said that “Christ in you” was the hope of glory. John said, “Greater is he that is in you” than he that is in the world. Even Christ said that He would be in us and we would be in Him and He would be in God.
Like Mary, believers have Christ on the inside. We have the indwelling presence of Almighty God. Therefore, salvation is not just faith in God; it is ultimately God in us!
