In the Gospel of Luke, Christ came through Samaria and healed ten lepers (Luke 17). These ten men stood on the outskirts of the city and cried out for mercy when the Lord passed by. Leprosy affected every aspect of their lives: religiously, socially, mentally, physically, and spiritually they were isolated and indifferent. Yet Christ gave them instruction to go to the priest. As they went their way, they were made whole of the terrible disease. What a glorious moment that must have been for this band of misfits; but out of the ten, only one turned back to give God the glory.
When this one fellow approached the Lord in praise, Christ asked him, “Where are the nine?” Christ healed all ten lepers of leprosy, but only one from ingratitude.
How often in our own lives do we fail to return thanks to God? Those who fail to worship God on a consistent basis fail to remember what their lives were like before He intervened. They have very little appreciation for His work of grace. If not for the mercy of God, those ten lepers would have died in their depravity; but Christ extended favor upon them and forever changed their circumstance. Today, Christ is still asking, “Where are the nine?” Be the minority and offer unto Him the sacrifice of praise.
