September 8 – The Wrong People

I love to study the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11.  Their acts of courage and heroism inspire and motivate me to attempt great things for God.  And although their faith was extraordinary, they were just ordinary people.  As a matter of fact, you may even say they were odd, obstinate, and obtuse people.  According to the standards of today’s industry and ministry you might even say they were the “wrong choices.”

Consider that Noah had problem with his wine.  Abraham lied about his wife being his sister.  Moses was a murderer.  Jacob was a deceiver.  David was an adulterer.  Rahab was a prostitute.  And Samson was a womanizer.  These are the heroes of faith?  It may initially seem that God chose the wrong kind of people; but what we may not remember is that all of these people were the recipients of grace.  When you combine God’s unmerited favor with extraordinary faith you will always get remarkable testimonies.

You may feel like you are the “wrong person” for the task.  Let me remind you that God chooses the weak things to confound the strong.  He uses the foolish things to confound the wise.  God never makes mistakes; He just extends His mercy.
