July 23 – A Component of Change

In the small epistle of Jude, we find a challenging verse tucked away in Scripture.  It simply reads, “And of some have compassion, making a difference” (Jude 22).  What a simple yet suggestive passage!  For just a moment, look back over your own life and reflect upon the people who made a difference in you.  More than likely those people were not stars, athletes, or champions of any sort; no, they were parents, pastors, teachers, neighbors, and the like just common, ordinary people who simply took the time to value your life and make a difference.

Even as they made a difference in your life, you can make a difference in the life of others.  Becoming a person of impact doesn’t take special skill or unusual talent.  It doesn’t require great articulation or physical power.  To make a difference in someone’s life is simply to care about that person.  “Having compassion” is the key to making a difference.

As the old saying goes, “People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.”  People are drawn to kindness and sympathy.  At the end of the day everyone just wants to be loved and understood.  Be that person for someone in need.  Change someone’s circumstance by demonstrating love and grace.  Your kindness today will result in a changed life tomorrow.
