In September of 2012, a string of churches was vandalized in Buffalo, Minnesota. Six local congregations in Wright County were targeted. They each had broken windows, obscene graffiti, and damage to property. The assailant confessed he was “angry with God” over personal issues and was looking for a way to vent.
It always appalls me whenever I hear of church vandalism. It is hard to image the audacity and disrespect of someone who commits such a crime. It is safe to assume that any believer who fears God is repulsed by someone who would treat His House with such contempt.
We are disgusted with such acts. We would dare not spray-paint a steeple or throw a rock intentionally at a stained-glass window. But what we often fail to realize is that our bodies are the true temples of God. The apostle Paul said, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). If your body is the House of God, wouldn’t you serve yourself well to examine how you treat it? When we realize that the God of all glory abides in our bodies, we will attempt to live in holiness and consecration.
