February 3, 2016 – They Need to Know

need-to-know

“And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house…” –Deuteronomy 6:7

Year after year I have watched my husband stay seated on Father’s Day when the Pastor asks people to stand in honor of their father’s who are already in Heaven. To most people this doesn’t seem like much, but for anyone who knows my husband’s story they can see the pain on his face as he stays seated. You see, my husband’s father was killed while my husband was just a baby. He doesn’t know if he will ever meet his earthly father. This past Father’s day as I sat there watching him hold back the tears of uncertainty, God showed me that we must ensure that our children never have to sit and wonder if they can stand in our place.

Our children need to know our salvation testimony. They need to know why we “know that we know”! Watching us faithfully attend church and serve the Lord, hearing us say amen to the preacher’s message, or crying tears of humility are all wonderful and our children will greatly benefit from those things. But they also need to know how we came to know Jesus personally! Our faith should absolutely be evidenced by our life, but we still need to share our salvation testimony with them often. On Father’s Day or Mother’s Day when our children are asked to stand in our honor it should be with complete confidence in knowing that we knew.
