     We say that we have eternal life as though it’s a separate reality from God. It’s a gift, we contend, therefore it is our possession, it is our ownership. But the truth is you cannot separate the gift from the Giver. A.W. Tozer said, “God did not create life and then toss it from Him like some petulant artist disappointed with his work. All life is in Him, and out of Him, flowing from Him and returning to Him again, a moving indivisible sea of which He is the Fountainhead.”

Eternal life is not merely a gift to be carried around as some cosmic Christmas ornament; instead it is God Himself. Tozer accurately declared, “Eternal life which was with the Father is now the possession of believing men, and that life is not God’s gift only, but His very self.”

The work of salvation uniquely drafts us into the life of Christ. We are dead, Paul said, and our “life is hid with Christ in God.” Therefore, eternal life is not only a possession; it is a Person, one Who forever guarantees our pardon. We have eternal life, but perhaps more accurately, the Creator of life has us.
